Mayor O'Brien says City of Ottawa should control waste managment

The City of Ottawa should take over the disposal of the city’s garbage, commercial and residential, says Mayor Larry O’Brien. “We would like nothing more than to have full authority on all waste management activities and all waste management in the municipality of Ottawa, commercial and residential,” he said Tuesday in a speech to about 100 people who attended a rally in Stittsville to protest a proposed expansion of the Carp Road dump. ...
The mayor referred to Waste Management’s project as a potential “chancre in the middle of a cosmopolitan city,” and repeated his earlier promise to “wage war on landfills.”
