Turning garbage into energyBy JON WILLING, OTTAWA SUN, Last Updated: April 16, 2010 11:07pm All Waste Management needs to do is flick a switch and the equivalent of 6,000 homes will be receiving power for a year thanks to the Carp Rd. dump. “Everything is ready to go. We are a matter of weeks away,” landfill site manager Ross Wallace said. “We’re just waiting for our final permit to export hydro.” The landfill gas is generating energy, which Waste Management is selling to Hydro One for the power grid. “We’re taking a renewable energy we were destroying and turning into something the community and the city is looking for, which is energy,” Wallace said.
